Obama 2012: les démocrates doivent-ils le larguer?

Ça mérite réflexion...

"This probably won’t go over too well down on Blue Heron Farm, but the Democrats’ best chance of keeping the White House next year may be to adopt Barack Obama’s old slogan, “change.”

And by change, I mean dumping Obama.

Presidents who preside over recessions usually don’t get re-elected. A president who has presided over the most devastating economic crisis since the Great Depression has even worse odds.

But Democrats do have a good opportunity to keep the White House, and her name is Hillary Clinton.

The former first lady is still beloved by most Democrats, but more importantly, she has deniability. While the economy has been tanking, Clinton has been jetting around the world worrying about foreign policy.

Can you imagine if Obama pulled a Lyndon Johnson and pulled out of the race before the convention, allowing Hillary to jump in? Republicans would suddenly face an opponent they can’t blame for Obama’s economic failures. Clinton would also energize disaffected voters in her own party. No elected Democrat would admit it publicly right now, but many — including a certain Massachusetts mayor and several members of our congressional delegation — feel she would have been a better president than Obama.

Not only is Hillary battle-tested and ready to go, her husband is too. Going back on the campaign trail may not be good timing for Bubba’s new vegan diet, but hey, potato chips and french fries are still animal-free, right?

And Clinton isn’t the only one who could replace Obama (don’t get excited Joe Biden, it’s not you). There is Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, who could appeal to moderates; Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York, who would appeal to liberals; and Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who would appeal to people who spend a lot of time on Twitter.

There’s also a Democratic governor out there who has never lost a race and whose state’s unemployment rate is way better than the rest of the nation.

Yes, I am talking about Deval Patrick. Not only is he a great campaigner, but if he wins, he wouldn’t have to rent an expensive summer home on Martha’s Vineyard to take a vacation. He already has one in the Berkshires."
