"The Clinton campaign sees the first lady as a unifying presence with the potential to heal some of the rifts within the Democratic party. Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said Wednesday he hopes she “will continue to do what she did in her speech, which is talk about the important role that the president plays as an advocate for kids and families, and how Hillary is eminently qualified to do that job probably better than anyone else in history.”"

"Donald Trump n'est pas qualifié pour devenir président" (Leon Panetta, ancien directeur de la C.I.A.)
"This just is beyond my own understanding of the responsibilities that candidates have to be loyal to their country and to their country alone, not to reach out to somebody like Putin and Russia, and try to engage them in an effort to try to, in effect, conduct a conspiracy against another party."

John Hinckley jr bientôt libre
"Hinckley attempted to assassinate Reagan outside the Washington Hilton on March 30, 1981, but was found not guilty by reason of insanity and ordered detained for treatment at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington.
Reagan was shot in the chest in the attack, but recovered. Three other men were wounded: White House Press Secretary James Brady, who was hit in the head and paralyzed; D.C. police officer Thomas Delahanty and Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy. Brady went on to become a living symbol of the gun-control movement until his death in 2014."

Le mariage complexe de Bill et Hillary Clinton (Alyssa Rosenberg, Washington Post)
"Okay, a revisionist feminist fairy tale, where the princess eventually saves the prince from the dragon, or the peasant girl ultimately tells the arrogant aristocrat to shove it in favor of lighting the castle on fire and leading a revolution. But watching Bill Clinton argue to the American people that they, too, should love his wife, and trying to narrate his marriage as a wonky fable, was both vexing and sweet at the same time."

"But the steps that Clinton aides are planning to shape his new life do little to address a potentially thornier problem: Historically, when Mr. Clinton does not have a job to do, he gets into trouble.
It was during the government shutdown in 1995 that Mr. Clinton began his affair with Monica Lewinsky. It was in the early years after he left the White House that his friendships with wealthy playboys became tabloid fodder. Sidelined by Mrs. Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, Mr. Clinton went rogue and started lashing out at Barack Obama. More recently, his dinner with the businessman Mark Cuban and his tarmac encounter with Attorney General Loretta Lynch were reminders that when Mr. Clinton has time on his hands, he can create dangerous distractions for his wife.
“He loves getting involved in things — no one loves policy and politics more than Bill Clinton,” said Mickey Kantor, a longtime friend and secretary of commerce under Mr. Clinton. “He loves, and needs, to have a purpose.”
Putting Mr. Clinton to good use, while containing his less helpful impulses, would be a major test for Mrs. Clinton as president, given the spotlight and pressure they would be under and her limited ability in the past to rein in his excesses. Mrs. Clinton sees him as her most trusted confidant and sounding board on national security and the economy, advisers say; one recalled a recent golf outing where Mr. Clinton received several phone calls and emails from Mrs. Clinton before reaching the 14th hole."

Caricature de STEVE SACK, THE MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE

(Richard Cohen, Washington Post)
"I would, to get right down to it, vote for Kim Kardashian over Donald Trump, so support of Clinton comes easy. Still, I am vexed by her rampant unpopularity, especially among the young women who found Bernie Sanders so exciting. I had to recall the wisdom of Gloria Steinem, who knows, because she was once a young woman herself, that aging is tough on women. When they are young, they are cherished, adored. But as they age, they become less adored — by men, sometimes, but by employers, too. They have children, complicating their lives. Every day-care center is constructed out of glass ceilings. Sanders somewhere along the line had a child out of wedlock. Imagine if Clinton had done the same."

“In this election, we cannot sit back and hope that everything works out for the best,” she said. “We cannot afford to be tired or frustrated or cynical. No, hear me: Between now and November, we need to do what we did eight years ago and four years ago. We need to knock on every door. We need to get out every vote. We need to pour out every last ounce of passion and our strength and our love for this country into electing Hillary Clinton as president of the United States of America. So let’s get to work.”

"Kaine was picked to shore up Clinton’s trust issues. Like his Trumpian counterpart, Mike Pence, the 57-year-old former commonwealth governor was selected to bolster his boss’s most glaring weakness. Voters view Trump as a sugar-high 10-year-old who just hijacked an Abrams tank; Clinton’s problem -- thanks to emails, Goldman Sachs, yadda-yadda – is that even many of her supporters wouldn’t trust her with an unattended purse.
In that regard Pence and Kaine are working the same side of the street, that is to say the sunnier side. Pence projects the oh-gosh steadiness of a high school principal who picks up a stray candy wrapper while he is asking about your kids; Kaine is the guy who spent a year in Honduras teaching school to poor kids and another six coaching lawyers on ethics at the University of Richmond Law School. As mayor of Virginia’s capital, and later in the state house, he earned a clean-hands reputation – and you will not find any one of his Senate colleagues on either side of the aisle evince a single nasty thing about him."

Hillary Clinton choisira-t-elle Tim Kaine?
“Safe” seems to be Kaine’s middle name. The Spanish-speaking former missionary and onetime swing-state governor sits on both the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees in the Senate. And while the Warren-Sanders wing of the Democratic Party may object to some of his positions on trade and Wall Street regulation, Kaine rarely takes controversial stands or makes painful gaffes, thus fulfilling the Hippocratic oath for vice presidential nominees: First, do no harm.
Kaine, for all the buzz about his chances, has been deeply self-effacing during the awkward public tryout process. When asked during a “Meet the Press” interview last month if he was ready to be president, he said no. "Nobody should ever say they’re ready for that responsibility, because it is so, so huge,” he said in what some saw as a tacit rebuke of Warren, who answered confidently that she is ready to be commander in chief when asked the same question by Rachel Maddow.
