"On October 20, 2011, deposed Libyan strongman Muammar Qaddafi met his end in his hometown of Sirte, at the hands of fighters for the Libyan Transitional Council. Qaddafi ruled Libya with an iron fist for more than 40 years, until he was chased from power in August of 2011, after a months-long rebellion against his rule aided by NATO.
