George W. Bush: "l'histoire me jugera"
"Former President George W. Bush, whose presidential library is set to open this week, is done justifying himself. “There’s no need to defend myself,” Bush told USA Today in an interview published Monday. “I did what I did and ultimately history will judge.”
Bush said his library will be a place to “lay out facts,” not to defend his eight-year tenure, which ended with a miserable 34 percent approval rating. The library has an interactive feature where visitors can listen to virtual advisers and then make the same decisions Bush was faced with.
The former president says he refers critics who try to debate him to his 2010 memoir, “Decision Points.”
“Get a sense of what I did and if you still disagree, I understand,” Bush tells them. While Bush insists he has little appetite for debating his tenure, he defended himself extensively in an interview with the Dallas Morning News published last week. President Barack Obama and former Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush are scheduled to travel to Dallas for the opening of Bush’s library on Thursday.
