La gauche ira-t-elle trop loin?

En entrevue plus tôt cette semaine j'affirmais que non seulement les Démocrates, à l'exception d'Obama, n'avaient un ou une leader, mais que la formation n'avait pas encore déterminé ce qu'elle présenterait comme message principal en 2020. Pour des élections de mi-mandat la ligne de parti est plus floue et on peut se permettre de laisser aller les centristes comme les plus socialistes. Le jeu devient plus complexe au moment de la présidentielle puisque le candidat ou la candidate doit porter un message au plan national. Cet article sur le site de "The Atlantic" explore ce sujet. Il est très difficile de remporter une élection aux États-Unis en misant sur un message très à gauche, surtout si vous tentez de regagner le vote de blancs conservateurs. La question se posait déjà lorsque Bernie Sanders a chauffé sérieusement Hillary Clinton et elle hante toujours les Démocrates.

In both cases—in the mid-1930s and the mid-1960s—the left gained that power through mass movements that threatened public order.
