Un ticket Kasich-Rubio pour la présidentielle 2016?

Je me suis intéressé à cette entrée de Seth Abramson sur "Huffpost politics" parce que la proposition est audacieuse, mais pas dénuée de sens. Oublions pour l'instant le faible nombre de délégués de Kasich. Dans l'éventualité d'une convention "ouverte" ou "contestée" à Cleveland en juillet, le choix de Kasich permettrait à la formation républicaine de présenter le seul candidat qui devance régulièrement Hillary Clinton dans les sondages. De plus, Kasich est le gouverneur d'un état plutôt démocrate et son bilan se défend. Comme vice-président on pourrait ensuite miser sur la jeunesse, le conservatisme et les origines cubaines de Marco Rubio pour séduire d'autres "clientèles". Même si je crois que les possibilités de voir ce scénario se matérialiser sont bien modestes, la suggestion mérite d'être étudiée.

Meanwhile, Kasich’s continued domination of Clinton in polling will convince Convention delegates — who value electability above all else — to put Kasich at the top of the ticket, and a known, reliable quantity like Rubio beside him.

Of course Bernie Sanders defeats Kasich by double-digits in the most recent polling, but Kasich and Rubio are both banking on the assumption that Democrats will, against all reason and hard evidence, nominate their least electable candidate.

And if they’re wrong — if Bernie’s the nominee come Cleveland — well, Bernie beats all the Republican candidates head-to-head, so at least (the Kasich argument will run) the Ohio Governor loses to Sanders by less than all the others."
