"Obama’s use of Romnesia, borrowed from liberal blogs, is the campaign’s latest effort to create a shorthand to describe both Romney’s ideological flexibility and the “severely” conservative views he espoused during the GOP primary contests. Romnesia covers both concepts with one word.
The two Obama attack lines could stir more distrust of Romney among persuadable voters — or they could muddle the Obama message in the campaign’s closing weeks. “They are definitely on high alert freak-out mode,” said Chip Saltsman, a GOP operative who ran Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign. “Instead of taking the time to aim they are starting to shoot wildly and see if they can hit something. Usually you want to try and hit one issue and hammer it home.”
Joe Trippi, who managed campaigns for Howard Dean and John Edwards, said he’s been in focus groups this fall in which undecided voters have expressed the exact same concerns about Romney that Obama is now trumpeting from the stump.
