Libye: une guerre sans objectif clair pour les États-Unis?

Un des nombreux analystes à se poser la question...

"It is hard to see a useful endgame to this war. Even if Mr. Gadhafi were killed or driven into exile, his sons and other Libyans with a stake in the status quo would remain, pounded down but undefeated. Even if the rebels were to take over, what would that mean? They are for the most part disorganized tribal militias, with no coherent view of a new or better Libya. Their latest enterprise in Benghazi, their capital in the east, appears to be to track down and murder former Gadhafi supporters.

So why is the United States involved? If it is to get rid of Mr. Gadhafi, what gives America the right to force regime change in Libya? Congress was never given the opportunity by President Barack Obama to offer its opinion in advance on taking the United States into such a war, in spite of the requirements of the War Powers Act. If the United States is there to preserve NATO, why are only a handful of the 28 NATO members -- primarily France, Italy and the United Kingdom -- actively participating in the war? If it is in response to Arab sentiment, why are only Qatar and the United Arab Emirates putting up money for the affair?

The Libya war is also costing the United States millions of dollars at a time when drastic budget cuts to important programs are being considered to shrink the budget deficit and stop the dizzying climb of the national debt. The war in Libya does not make sense for America and should be brought to an end now."
