Nomination de Brett Kavanaugh: vote sous tension au sénat

Normalement Brett Kavanaugh devrait obtenir les appuis nécessaires et devenir bientôt le neuvième juge de la cour suprême. Deux sénatrices républicaines pourraient peut-être faire dérailler le vote en s'opposant au choix de Donald Trump. Les sénatrices Susan Collins et Lisa Murkowski ne s'opposent pas au recours à l'avortement alors que le juge Kavanaugh est connu pour sa position plus conservatrice. Serait-ce suffisant pour que les deux femmes sortent du rang? Nous le saurons bientôt, mais en attendant ils sont nombreux à exercer des pressions sur les deux sénatrices.

 "The campaign aimed at Ms. Collins comes largely from progressive groups, abortion rights advocates and other opponents of Judge Kavanaugh. Planned Parenthood has conducted focus groups with independent female voters in Maine. Activists have streamed into Ms. Collins’s offices in Portland and elsewhere with stacks of letters and oral testimony of abortions and pre-existing health conditions.

Aides to Ms. Collins estimated that her offices received about 3,000 coat hangers by mail to date, a reference to a time before Roe v. Wade, when some women used wire coat hangers to try to end unwanted pregnancies.
