Serena Williams: controverse autour d'une caricature

Le caricaturiste australien Mark Knight se retrouve maintenant au coeur de toute la controverse entourant la finale du US Open et la colère de Serena Williams. Plusieurs observateurs considèrent que la représentation de Knight est raciste en raison des traits caricaturaux attribués à Williams, mais également parce que son adversaire est représentée comme étant blonde et blanche. J'avais déjà relayé cette caricature plus tôt aujourd'hui et j'avoue bien modestement que certains détails n'avaient pas attiré mon attention, particulièrement la représentation de Naomi Osaka. Thomson’s words note how Williams’s athletic forebears — such great black champions of the early 20th century as boxers Jack Johnson and Joe Louis — were often depicted in cartoons of the era via Sambo caricatures."
