Comme je le mentionnais hier, il faut jour le jeu jusqu'au bout! Après la publication hier de "Tessie" et la victoire subséquente des Sox, voici maintenant " I'm Shipping Up To Boston" la chanson qu'on entend au Fenway park alors que s'amène au monticule le redoutable Jonathan Papelbon, un des "closers" les plus effices des 5 ou 6 dernières années. "C'est juste du sport", mais c'est agréable de se laisser aller un peu. Ne boudons pas notre plaisir!

Douche bag: l'image des garçons...

Je vous laisse un lien pour la chronique de Marie-Claude Lortie dans La Presse. La photo qui coiffe cette entrée est tirée de son carnet web... C'est la tristement célèbre (désolé pour la subjectivité!) série Jersey shore qui aurait expliqué ce qu'est un douche bag. Une réflexion sur l'importance de l'image et du physique chez les garçons en 2011. Contrairement à ce qu'elle affirme, on voyait déjà poindre ces tendances à l'époque où je terminais l'école secondaire et que j'entreprenais mes études collégiales. En prime le Douchebag Anthem de Casual mafia:

Le Dr Wilkins, lui, a carrément reçu à l'hôpital de jeunes garçons qui se faisaient vomir parce qu'ils se sentaient coupables de manger, alors qu'ils avaient tout simplement... faim.

Donc, aux pourcentages effarants de jeunes filles obsédées par leur image, il faut maintenant ajouter tous ces jeunes garçons qui n'aboutiront peut-être pas dans les pires statistiques sur les troubles alimentaires, mais pour qui l'excès de poids est devenu non seulement indésirable, mais pratiquement immoral, comme le dit la recherche du professeur Norman.

Est-ce vraiment là qu'on voulait être, en 2011?"

Syrie: des chrétiens appuient Assad

"Abu Elias sat beneath the towering stairs leading from the Convent of Our Lady of Saydnaya, a church high up in the mountains outside Damascus, where Christians have worshiped for 1,400 years. “We are all scared of what will come next,” he said, turning to a man seated beside him, Robert, an Iraqi refugee who escaped the sectarian strife in his homeland.

“He fled Iraq and came here,” said Abu Elias, looking at his friend, who arrived just a year earlier. “Soon, we might find ourselves doing the same.”

Syria plunges deeper into unrest by the day. On Tuesday, government troops attacked the rebellious town of Rastan with tanks and machine guns, wounding at least 20 people. With the chaos growing, Christians visiting Saydnaya on a recent Sunday said they feared that a change of power could usher in a tyranny of the Sunni Muslim majority, depriving them of the semblance of protection the Assad family has provided for four decades.

Syria’s Christian minority is sizable, about 10 percent of the population, though some here say the share is actually lower these days. Though their sentiments are by no means monolithic — Christians are represented in the opposition, and loyalty to the government is often driven more by fear than fervor — the group’s fear helps explain how President Bashar al-Assad has held on to segments of his constituency, in spite of a brutal crackdown aimed at crushing a popular uprising.

For many Syrian Christians, Mr. Assad remains predictable in a region where unpredictability has driven their brethren from war-racked places like Iraq and Lebanon, and where others have felt threatened in postrevolutionary Egypt.

They fear that in the event the president falls, they may be subjected to reprisals at the hands of a conservative Sunni leadership for what it sees as Christian support of the Assad family. They worry that the struggle to dislodge Mr. Assad could turn into a civil war, unleashing sectarian bloodshed in a country where minorities, ethnic and religious, have found a way to coexist for the most part.

The anxiety is so deep that many ignore the opposition’s counterpoint: The government has actually made those divisions worse as part of a strategy to ensure the rule of the Assad family, which itself springs from a Muslim minority, the Alawites.

Après les treize jours de 1962, une nouvelle crise des missiles à Cuba? Les déclarations de Bachmann auraient-elles un lien avec de pitoyables résultats dans les derniers sondages?

"Michele Bachmann has her eye on a new front in the War on Terror: Havana.

At an event in Iowa on Monday, the poll-plummeting candidate warned of a new potential Cuban missile crisis — involving Hezbollah.

“And the question was asked, should we normalize trading with Cuba? Why would you normalize trading with a country that sponsors terror?” Bachmann said. “Cuba — there’s reports that have come out that Cuba has been working with another terrorist organization called Hezbollah. And Hezbollah is potentially looking at wanting to be part of missile sites in Iran.

“And, of course, when you’re 90 miles offshore from Florida, you don’t want to entertain the prospect of hosting bases or sites where Hezbollah could have training camps or perhaps have missile sites or weapons sites in Cuba. This would be foolish.”

As Think Progress notes, it appears that the sole source of Bachmann’s allegation is an unconfirmed report in an Italian newspaper, about Hezbollah setting up a cell in Cuba, in order to have a base of operations for targeting Israeli targets in Latin America.

Thus Bachmann’s logic appears to be: 1) Hezbollah are bad; 2) Hezbollah has missiles; 3) Hezbollah are trying to set up shop in Cuba; and therefore 4) Hezbollah could imminently set up missile sites in Cuba to target the United States."
