"An angry Piers Morgan lashed out at Todd Akin for skipping a scheduled interview on his primetime cable news show Monday night, calling him a "gutless little twerp."

According to Morgan, Akin backed out at the last minute after previously agreeing to be interviewed on his CNN program, prompting the talk show host to show live on TV the black chair that the Missouri Senate GOP candidate was expected to be sitting in.

 "Congressman, you have an open invitation to join me in that chair whenever you feel up to it because if you don't keep your promise to be on the show, then you are what we would call in Britain, a gutless little twerp," Morgan said.

 An Akin spokesman did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Akin on Monday was interviewed by conservative commentators over his now-infamous "legitimate rape" comments, saying he misspoke and apologizing to voters and his constituents. But he is insisting he'll stay in the race despite GOP calls to drop out because they fear he'll now lose to Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill."
