Ben Affleck vs Bill Maher

Bill Maher dans ses célèbres tirades va souvent loin, très loin, peut-être trop loin. Au-delà de la controverse que recherche souvent l'humoriste et animateur, il y a bien souvent des sujets sérieux qui sont abordés. Vendredi soir les participants à son émission se sont enflammés en discutant des propos tenus par Maher. Oublions que bien souvent se sont des vedettes qui moussent la popularité de l'émission pour nous concentrer sur le coeur de la discussion: la perception que les américains ont de la religion musulmane? Peut-on critiquer cette religion? Est-on racistes et islamophobes? Le débat est intéressant, même lorsqu'il est présenté par un "caricaturiste" comme Maher.

 "Alongside panelists Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times and author Sam Harris, Maher began one of his signature diatribes on what he called the anti-liberal character of Islam.

Harris, a prominent critic of organized religion, lamented the backlash against his and Maher's remarks on the influence of the Muslim religion.

“We have been sold this meme of Islamophobia, where criticism of the religion gets conflated with bigotry towards Muslims as people. It's intellectually ridiculous,” Harris said.

Affleck, appearing on the show to promote his new film Gone Girl, couldn't contain himself.

"It's gross, it's racist," Affleck said of Maher's point.
