New York, un "swing state" en 2012? Légère exagération!
Newt Gingrich affirme à ses partisans qu'il pourrait gagner l'état de New York lors de la prochaine élection présidentielle. J'ai de sérieuses réserves...
"The Gingrich campaign says the former House speaker plans to "outline his 50-state strategy" in New York today, in an email confidently predicting: "New York is in play in 2012."
From the Gingrich campaign message:
Our exhausted entitlement and welfare model is a dead end for low-income Americans everywhere, from the rural South to right here in New York City. And now is the time to make the case in every single neighborhood in this country that conservative solutions can lead the way to create prosperity for all Americans.
Building on the successes of job creation and welfare reform during Newt Gingrich’s Speakership, it will be a central goal of a Gingrich presidency to uplift and empower all Americans, especially the poor, with greater hope and opportunity.
As readers know, the last time New York voted for a Republican in a presidential election was 1984, and the last time any Republican won a statewide election was 2002. A November Siena College poll found that Newt Gingrich's favorability rating in the state was 26 percent positive and 58 percent negative.
So it's fair to ask whether Gingrich is misreading the political environment in a pretty dramatic fashion, or whether he thinks Republican voters will like this kind of bluster about the general election, or whether he's giving himself cover for spending time on Staten Island this weekend and in Trump Tower today. These are not mutually exclusive options."
