Occupy Boston: les participants écopent d'une année de probation

Une sentence symbolique...

"More than 20 Occupy Boston protesters appeared in a Boston courtroom today to face trespassing and resisting arrest charges filed when police moved in early Saturday morning and evicted them from their Dewey Square encampment.

During the police action, which brought a peaceful end to the 72-day occupation of a slice of the Greenway by Occupy Boston, demonstrators linked their arms in an effort to slow their removal by police.

Suffolk County prosecutors dropped the resisting arrest charges for most of the protesters, provided they agreed to plead guilty to trespassing and be sentenced to one year of probation.

Many of the defendants were also ordered to stay away from Dewey Square in order to end the criminal cases against them. All were released on personal recognizance.

After his appearance in Boston Municipal Court, protester Noah McKenna said he believed the protest had been a success, and said he needed to “keep my job” at a Boston area hospital laboratory.

“The statement has been made’’ by the encampment, said McKenna, a Jamaica Plain resident.

The remaining Occupy Boston defendants, who number less than 10, are due in court Wednesday.

The court action came as restoration work has been started by the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy on the small patch of land used as a tent city by the protesters. The repairs, which include installing grass sod with a 50/50 mix of Kentucky blue grass and fescue, are expected to cost as much as $60,000.

Occupy Boston protesters have promised to hand over some of their donations to help defray the costs."
