"The lone holdover from the pre-lockout Bruins (not counting goalie Tim Thomas [stats], who played in four games before the lockout and capped his personal journey by blanking the Canucks and walking away with the Conn Smythe Trophy), Bergeron probably understands better than any of his teammates just what this remarkable championship means to Boston.
“This means so much for the city of Boston,” Bergeron said. “I’ve been here eight years. I know what this means, to be able to bring the Cup back home to all the fans. I can’t wait to get to the parade and get to celebrate this with all of them.”
Looking back at last year’s stunning second-round loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, and the second-round flop a year before against the Carolina Hurricanes, Bergeron saw those failures as key building blocks for this team. Although the B’s blew it the last two springs, Bergeron never lost faith that winning the Cup was possible.
“I always believed,” he said. “The last two years I thought we learned a lot from our mistakes. You’ve got to go through it, I guess, to be a better person, a better player and a better team. We’ve done that.”"
