Congé férié pour Obama en Illinois: trop tôt?

Obama a connu du succès à Chicago et c'est à cet endroit qu'il a lancé la campagne qui allait le mener à la présidence. Un représentant du Congrès de l'état souhaite souligner le parcours du premier Noir à accéder à la présidence par un congé férié, mais les réactions à son initiative sont parfois brutales. Que ce soit pour Obama ou pour un autre homme politique, la polarisation de la vie politique aux États-Unis rend la tentative de commémoration presqu'impossible. Ajoutons à la division politique les coûts liés à l'implantation.

 "Pat Brady, a former state GOP chairman, said most people in his party — at least in Illinois — wouldn't argue with recognizing Obama.

"The reality is he's the first African-American president in the history of the country. I think Democrat or Republican, we should take some pride in that," Brady said, adding that while commemorative holiday or recognitions are appropriate, having a government day off is a stretch.
